The UK Foreign Office Travel advice for Mexico has been updated due to these events. All but essential travel is advised against. Stay alert and follow local security advice.
Security incidents have been reported across Mexico including the states of Jalisco, Oaxaca and Quintana Roo (including Cancun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum). Violence between the security forces and the cartel is ongoing (February 2026). Cruisers have reported temporary closures of public transportation and restricted movement in town.
Cruisers are advised to remain in harbor or at anchor, avoid shore excursions, monitor local VHF nets, and follow official local shelter‑in‑place instructions. Flight schedules in Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara have been disrupted, with several airlines canceling or diverting services at short notice.
