The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with PREPARED International (PPI), establishing a new framework for collaboration on disaster risk management, climate resilience, and risk‑informed development across member states. The agreement reinforces a shared commitment to advancing resilience in small island developing states at a time of increasing climate variability and economic vulnerability.

Under the partnership, the OECS and PPI will jointly design and implement programs to strengthen preparedness and support sustainable development planning. The goal is to enhance the region’s ability to anticipate, withstand, and recover from the growing impacts of natural hazards and climate change.

In related news, in March 2026 the OECS Commission hosted a handover ceremony for newly installed resilience upgrades at its headquarters in Castries, St. Lucia, including a solar photovoltaic system, solar‑powered exterior lighting, and upgraded water and sewer systems.

The interventions are designed to reduce dependence on the national grid, ensure operational continuity during power outages, and strengthen water storage and sanitation capacity during emergencies. Together, these upgrades support OECS efforts to build institutional resilience and safeguard essential services during severe weather events.
