Bonaire faces mounting ecological pressure from rapid development, population growth, and climate‑driven threats such as coral bleaching, erosion, and declining water quality. In response, leading conservation groups have formed the Bonaire Nature Platform (BNP), a coalition designed to strengthen collaboration and present a unified voice on nature protection.
The BNP brings together organizations working across marine and terrestrial ecosystems, combining their expertise to better address the island’s most urgent environmental challenges.
By coordinating efforts, the platform aims to streamline communication with government officials, local stakeholders, and other decision‑makers who rely on accurate, science‑based guidance.
Since its launch in 2022, the BNP has operated through specialized task groups focused on key conservation priorities. These teams identify shared goals, support one another’s projects, and guide initiatives ranging from habitat restoration and native species protection to sustainable land and water management. The platform also plays a growing role in shaping long‑term strategies for Bonaire’s protected areas.
BNP members meet monthly to assess emerging issues, develop joint solutions, and explore opportunities for collective action. Their overarching goal is to build a more resilient island—one where healthy ecosystems support both the natural environment and the community that depends on it.
