Simpson Bay, Sint Maarten – 26/09/2025 – The Sint Maarten Yacht Club (SMYC) is proud to announce the publication of the Notice of Race (NOR) and the official opening of registration for the landmark 20th edition of the Budget Marine Optimist Championship, taking place November 27 – 30 in the waters of Simpson Bay.
Over the past two decades, the Optimist Championship has grown into one of the premier youth sailing events in the Caribbean, consistently attracting talented young sailors from across the region and beyond, with a record of 44 Optimists, from 8 different islands competing in last year’s edition. Organized annually by the SMYC and proudly sponsored by Budget Marine, the regatta provides an exciting platform for youth sailors to compete internationally, sharpen their skills, and build lasting friendships.
“This year is especially exciting as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Championship,” said Sam Peeks, SMYC Representative. “Publishing the NOR and opening registration marks the official countdown to what promises to be another spectacular 4 days of racing. We can’t wait to welcome sailors, coaches, and families to Sint Maarten for this milestone edition.”
The 2025 regatta will feature multiple fleets for Optimist sailors, including the competitive Championship Fleet as well as fleets designed to encourage beginners and developing sailors. Beyond the racing, participants and families will enjoy a vibrant social program, hospitality at the SMYC, and the warm welcome that Sint Maarten is known for.
Registration is now open, and sailors, clubs, and teams are encouraged to secure their spots early. Full event details, including the Notice of Race, entry requirements, and registration forms, can be found at www.smyc.com/optimist-championship
