⛵ Registration is now open for the ninth edition of the Caribbean Multihull Challenge (CMC), set for February 4–7, 2027, in Sint Maarten.
Hosted by the Sint Maarten Yacht Club, the four-day event will once again bring some of the Caribbean’s biggest and fastest multihulls together at one of the region’s premier racing venues.
The 2027 CMC will welcome multihulls competing under CSA and MOCRA ratings, along with the dedicated Diam 24 one-design class. For the first time, the event will also be open to additional one-design classes, including F18s and Hobie beach cats.
🏆 More Opportunities to Reach the Podium
Following the introduction of a new Line Honors award in 2026, the 2027 CMC will expand its prizegiving format. Catamarans and trimarans will race the same courses within the same classes but receive separate first-, second- and third-place trophies, based on the number of entries.
“The Challenge has evolved a little each year. For 2027, we’ve extended the invitation to beach cats to join the fun—F18s and Hobies are now welcome,” said Petro Jonker, chair of the Caribbean Multihull Challenge Race and Rally Steering Committee.
“We’re also thrilled to extend prizegiving to catamarans and trimarans, which will race the same courses in the same classes but will be awarded their own first-, second- and third-place trophies based on the number of entries.”
Last year’s class winners included the Nigel Irens-designed 63-foot trimaran Sophia in CSA 1, the Rapido 40 Spike in CSA 2 and Fastnet in the Diam 24 one-design class. The stage is now set to see which boats and crews will reach the top of the podium in 2027.
⛵ Windies Multihull Trophy to Be Presented at CMC
Following the conclusion of the 2026 Caribbean racing season, the Caribbean Sailing Association’s Budget Marine Windies Multihull Trophy will also be presented during the 2027 CMC.
Congratulations go to Sophia, winner of the 60 Feet and Over Class, and the Leopard 50 La Novia, winner of the Under 60 Feet Class.
🌴 The CMC Rally Returns
The Caribbean Multihull Challenge is not only for racing crews. The CMC Rally will once again run alongside the racing program, offering cruising multihull sailors a combination of sailing, friendly competition and shoreside social events.
Rally participants will explore different parts of Sint Maarten while competing in sailing time trials and navigational challenges. Planned destinations include Friar’s Bay, Orient Bay, Baie Rouge and Mullet Bay, with the camaraderie among participating crews remaining a central part of the experience.
“The rally forms another part of the event in its own right,” Jonker said. “Vessels join the rally for a sailing time trial by day and social time by night, bringing the fleet together each evening for events based out of Sint Maarten Yacht Club.”
Friday afternoon will feature a sporty, informal gathering on Kim Sha Beach, an easy walk from the yacht club, bringing racers and rally participants together for more shoreside fun and a broader celebration of multihull sailing.
