How did we start?
My Weather Router delivers personalised daily weather forecasts and routing advice directly to your yacht while on passage — giving you clarity, confidence, and support when you need it most.
The service was founded over 15 years ago by Charlie Carlow, a professional skipper and RYA Ocean Yachtmaster with more than 100,000 logged nautical miles. His journey into weather routing began mid-Atlantic, when his sister, aboard the yacht, Scarlet Oyster, found itself facing a developing Tropical Revolving Storm during a November crossing.
From shore, Charlie guided the boat safely through the system and completed the passage successfully. What began as helping family quickly became something much bigger.
For the next decade, Charlie continued routing Scarlet Oyster through racing circuits and transatlantic events, including the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers. Word spread through dockside conversations and sailing networks, and soon other yachts were requesting the same level of personalised support.
Within a few years, My Weather Router was guiding boats across the Atlantic in both directions, assisting yachts along the US East Coast, and supporting passages throughout the Pacific. As onboard internet improved, offshore skippers were able to receive detailed daily reports at sea — and the service evolved to meet the needs of modern cruisers.
My Weather Router has also worked with well-known sailing YouTube channels such as Sailing Ocean Fox, Polar Seal, and Sailing Atticus, helping them plan and execute safe and efficient ocean crossings. Their journeys introduced the service to a wider international cruising community, particularly European boats sailing from the Baltic to the Canaries and onward to the Caribbean.
