It was an eventful summer for 15-year-old Kai Marks-Dasent. In April, he completed a 70-mile solo sail from St. Vincent to Grenada (Compass, July 2026). From July 24-August 8 he competed at the Central American and Caribbean Games, and immediately began preparing to head for Aarhus, Denmark, to represent St. Vincent and the Grenadines at the ILCA 6 Youth World Championships, held from August 11-19, where he was one of the youngest sailors in the 15–18 age category. He finished 74th in the under-17 fleet and 290th overall among the competitors.
Marks-Dasent has taken his first step onto the world stage, gaining experience competing against the best young sailors in the world. Next will be the World Sailing Youth World Championships in Portugal in December, as he works towards his long-term goal of representing St. Vincent and the Grenadines at the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.
From August 1-9, 14-year-old Joshua Weinhardt represented St. Vincent and the Grenadines at the ILCA 4 Youth Sailing Worlds in Denmark, becoming the first Vincentian sailor to compete at an ILCA Youth Worlds event.
