LIAT 2020 launches operations with its inaugural flight today
LIAT 2020, the revived incarnation of one of the Caribbean’s most popular airlines, is set to make its historic maiden flight today, marking a significant milestone in regional aviation.
The inaugural flight, bound for St Lucia, is scheduled to take off at 11:30 a.m. and will carry a group of dignitaries and media representatives.
The launch follows a brief opening ceremony, during which the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Gaston Browne, and other officials expressed their pride in this momentous occasion.
The event underscores the collaborative effort between regional governments and Nigerian carrier Airpeace to revive the beloved airline.
LIAT 2020 begins its operations with a fleet of seven aircraft, initially offering a limited schedule of three flights per week between Antigua and Barbuda, St Lucia, and Barbados.

As the launch of LIAT 2020 draws closer, demonstrative flights are set to take off this week, marking a significant step towards obtaining Air Operations Certificates (AOC).

Mar 6th 2024: LIAT 2020 expected to begin flights within a month with six planes
In less than a month, Antigua officials believe LIAT 2020 will start flights. Ambassador Daven Joseph, the temporary chairman, said the airline would launch with six planes.
Antigua will buy three LIAT 1974 Limited aircraft through the Caribbean Development Bank for $12.1 million. Antigua and Barbuda will deposit $4.1 million to buy the first aircraft soon.
Joseph hopes to get the Air Operators Certificate (AOC) and aircraft in two to three weeks.
The government is also working with Nigeria’s Air Peace to start LIAT 2020 with six aircraft and expand the fleet in the future.
One LIAT aircraft is operational, while the other two are being maintained. The intention is to have all three operational by September.

Angitua & Barbuda allocate $11M for New LIAT

Dominica Also Ready to Invest in New LIAT

Jan 9th, 2024: After nearly half a century of operating under Caribbean government ownership, the 67-year-old regional carrier LIAT is set to conclude its current phase as LIAT (1974) Ltd on January 24, according to Barbados Today.
Barbados TODAY acquired a letter dated Thursday, signed by the administrator Cleveland Seaforth, conveying this impactful news.
