As conversations continue around the future of agriculture in the U.S. Virgin Islands, one St. Thomas entrepreneur is making the case that the future of farming lies not only in what farmers grow, but in the experiences they create.
Lee Steiner, founder of The Hideaway at Hull Bay and a licensed commercial farmer, told the Caribbean Food Crops Society Meeting and the Virgin Islands Agricultural Caribbean Conference at the University of the Virgin Islands at a summit that agritourism can help Virgin Islands farmers diversify income, strengthen food security, and create sustainable new business opportunities by transforming working farms into visitor experiences.
Steiner discussed practical ways farmers can diversify income through experiences such as farm tours, farm-to-table dinners, and overnight farm stays.
