From May 2nd to 4th, Marina Puerto Bahía buzzed with energy as its Spring Regatta made its long-awaited return after an 8-year break. With 22 participants competing across four dinghy sailing categories—ILCA 6, ILCA 7, Sunfish, and Optimist—the event marked a joyful revival of one of Samaná’s most cherished sailing traditions.
The regatta brought together sailors of all ages and levels, in a setting that blended sport, nature, and local culture. The weekend kicked off with a festive welcome cocktail and continued with a delicious Dominican sancocho on day two—just what the sailors needed after a full day out on the water. The celebration closed with a warm and lively awards ceremony at Le Deauville in The Bannister Hotel, with stunning views over the marina.
As part of Marina Puerto Bahía’s commitment to sustainability, the trophies—sponsored by EcoBahía—were handcrafted by local artisans using coconut materials and shaped like whales, paying tribute to the humpback whales that visit Samaná each winter. The atmosphere throughout the weekend was one of togetherness and joy. Families, friends, and sailing enthusiasts came together to enjoy the beautiful bay, cheer on the competitors, and reconnect with the spirit of the regatta.
Marina Puerto Bahía is beyond excited to bring this tradition back to life and is already looking forward to next year’s edition in 2026, where it plans to include cruising sailboats and grow the event even further.
