A major new tourism development is moving forward in Carriacou, with plans for a 30-room boutique resort that could help address one of the island’s ongoing challenges: limited accommodations during peak travel periods and major events.
Developers Marie and Reneta Fielden have announced progress toward construction of the True Blue Bay Resort Carriacou, a US$5 million project planned for St. Louis. Financed by Republic Bank and supported by the Government of Grenada, the development is expected to be completed in 2028.
For Carriacou, where accommodations are often in short supply during festivals, regattas, and the busy cruising season, the addition of 30 rooms represents a meaningful boost in visitor capacity. The project is expected to strengthen the island’s tourism offering while creating new opportunities for local businesses and service providers.
Plans presented during a recent community town hall meeting include two swimming pools, one of which will be open to day visitors, as well as a restaurant seating approximately 80 guests. The restaurant will also be accessible to the public. Developers emphasized that public access to the beach will remain unchanged.
The project has received support from the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government, which has committed to constructing the main access road serving the development. During the town hall meeting, project leaders Russ, Marie, and Reneta Fielden shared architectural concepts prepared by local firm COCOA and gathered feedback from residents on the resort’s design and anticipated impact.
The development has also earned support from local hotelier Lotten Friday, owner of Sea Breeze Hotel and Bay House, who highlighted True Blue Bay Resort’s reputation for hospitality and environmental stewardship.
For many in the tourism sector, the investment reflects growing confidence in Carriacou’s future as a destination. Long known for attracting sailors, divers, and travelers seeking a quieter side of the Caribbean, the island continues to expand its visitor infrastructure while maintaining the character that makes it unique.
If completed as planned, the resort will become one of Carriacou’s most significant recent tourism investments, helping the island welcome more visitors while supporting local employment and economic growth.
