1999 - Just Fine!

That special sweep of islands running south from Antigua to the ABC's offers year-round sailing events.

Here's just some of what '99 has in store for you:

JANUARY: The first-ever Non-Stop Around St. Lucia Race is on the 2nd. In Martinique, the Mémorial René Dantin Race takes place on the 16th. On the 21st is the Mount Gay Barbados Round the Island Race. St. Lucia's Heineken Regatta will run the 22nd to 24th. Antigua's Round the Island Race takes place on the 23rd. On the 28th, the Girl Pat Race from Trinidad to Grenada leads into the Grenada Sailing Festival, which runs from the 29th to February 3. The Tour de la Martinique will be held on the 30th and 31st.

FEBRUARY: In Trinidad, the Angostura Fun Race will be held on the 7th. A Valentine's Day Regatta will sail on the 13th and 14th, and a Lady Helmsman Race on the 27th both in Antigua. Sailing Week Schoelcher in Martinique runs the 12th through 17th. On the 21st is the True Blue Inn Pursuit Yacht Race in Grenada.

MARCH: On the 14th, the Scotia Bank Yacht Race takes place in Grenada. North Sails Cup in Guadeloupe runs from the 19th to 21st. On the 28th is Antigua's Carlisle Bay Race.

APRIL: Bequia's Easter Regatta runs from the 1st through the 5th. The Petite Martinique Regatta is on the 3rd and 4th, as are Grenada's Easter Dinghy Races and the Carib Grenada Powerboat Regatta. In "big" Martinique: another Tour de la Martinique from the 2nd to the 6th, the Coupe Jean-Joseph Race on the 5th, and the Martinique to St. Lucia Race on the 10th and 11th. Antigua's Classic Yacht Regatta runs from the 15th to the 20th, followed by Antigua Sailing Week from the 25th to May 1st. MAY: Angostura Yachting World Regatta (Tobago Race Week) runs from the 9th to the 14th. The Banana's Cup in Martinique will be held from the 21st to the 23rd. Aruba's Seaport Yacht Race runs from the 22nd to the 30th. The Grenada Electricity Services Yacht Race will take place on the 23rd. The Mount Gay/Boatyard/Seahorse Regatta in Barbados goes from the 28th to the 30th.

JUNE: Martinique's Régates de Juin runs from the 6th through the 12th. On the 7th will be Grenada's Footloose & Outfitters International Yacht Race. The Redonda Race (from Antigua) will be held on the 12th and 13th. JULY: The Antigua-Barbuda Challenge runs from the 3rd to the 5th. In Grenada, there is a Venezuelan Independence Yacht Race on the 5th, and the La Source Yacht Race on he 18th. The 1999 Optimist Dinghy World Championship will be held in Martinique from the 14th through the 25th. Carriacou Regatta runs July 31st through August 2nd, and Canouan Regatta from the 29th to August 3rd.

AUGUST: Caribbean Dinghy Championships will take place in Barbados from the 13th to the 15th. Antigua's Green Island Weekend is the 21st and 22nd.

SEPTEMBER: On the 18th and 19th, the Jolly Harbour Yacht Club Regatta takes place in Antigua. A Grenada Yacht Club Race will be run on the 19th.

OCTOBER: Early in the month, Bonaire hosts its annual regatta. Martinique's Trophée Roy-Camille Race will be held on the 10th. Laser action is in Antigua, with the Ladies' Open Championship on the 15th and the Caribbean Team Championships on the 16th and 17th. Another Grenada Yacht Club Race will take place on the 17th.

NOVEMBER: The Queen's Cup/Independence Day Race sails in Antigua on the 1st. On the 21st, grab your honey for the "un homme un femme" race in Martinique. Celebrate the End of Hurricane Season yacht Race in Grenada on the 28th. DECEMBER: Early in the month, participants in the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) arrive in St. Lucia. The International Open and Dragon World Championships will be held in Martinique from the 6th through the 21st.
